Writers, and agents, and publishers, oh my!

Hi everyone, It's time for the Writer's Digest Conference in NYC!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I've been working very hard at getting ready for the Conference on January 21st in New York. Wish me luck. I'll be posting more writing advice and giving out more information on my favorite author sites and resources soon, but right now it's all about the conference.

I can't give any better writing advice to any author with a polished finished novel than to attend the Writers Digest Conference in New York next week. 50 agents, representing numerous topics from erotic fiction to self help will be there, all wanting to meet the next great author, YOU! Or ME!!
It will be my first conference, but from what I've learned from other writers at absolutewrite.com, it is a precious opportunity to get feedback about your work, and maybe even find someone to represent your book.
My wife and I have spent hours perfecting my 90 second pitch and editing my synopsis, which is down to a very nice 2 pages.  The way I see it, I'll need a partial copy of my manuscript, a full copy, and many copies of my synopsis. My dream is to walk out of there with representation, but if 2 or 3 people ask me for a manuscript I'll consider it a success. I think if they read the book, they'll want to represent me.

My friend Eric said I should just tell them the title of the book and then sit back and say, "Now you ask me questions!" You would think a book with the title Confessions of an Internet Pornographer would be an easy sell, but it's turning out to be as much as a nail bitter as any other project.

However, even if no one asks for information about my book, I'm still gonna get  great little trip to NYC. I go to sleep every night dreaming of having one of those agents look me in the eye and saying, "I love it! I love you! Let's get this thing published! but I'm realistic about the whole thing. I've been writing long enough now to know not to get my hopes up, or expect miracles.

Anyone out there going? I can recommend a few very cool places to visit in NYC. After all I lived there (almost) all of my life. It really is the greatest city in the world.

     Talk to ya' later

     Lucho
